2025.09.0907:24:58UTC+00European Stocks Rise for 2nd Session

European stocks experienced modest gains on Tuesday, marking a continuation of a positive trend for the second consecutive session. The STOXX 50 index increased by 0.2%, while the STOXX 600 rose by 0.5%. Investors attentively evaluated recent corporate developments and remained cautious regarding the escalating political uncertainty in France, following the loss of a confidence vote by yet another prime minister on Monday. This development compels President Macron to appoint the nation's fifth prime minister in under two years. The market is poised for a busy week filled with significant economic events, such as the European Central Bank's policy decision, U.S. inflation figures, and payroll revisions.

In corporate news, Novartis saw a minor decline of 0.4% after announcing its acquisition of the biopharmaceutical company Tourmaline Bio. Conversely, Anglo American gained 5.5% upon reaching a merger agreement with Canada's Teck Resources. Furthermore, Monte dei Paschi di Siena increased by 4.5% as it successfully attained a 62% stake in Mediobanca, which itself rose by 4.3%.
