In August 2025, Bangladesh experienced a decrease in its annual inflation rate, falling to 8.29% from 8.55% recorded in July. This is the lowest inflation rate observed since July 2022, with notable moderation in price growth across several key sectors. Specifically, transportation costs reduced to 6.75% from July's 7.08%, while housing and utilities declined to 7.62% from 7.8%. Clothing and footwear saw a significant decrease to 13.89% from 15.8%, and the sector covering alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and narcotics fell to 12.57% from 13.37%. Other areas such as furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance also experienced a decline to 8.11% from 9.27%. Health sector costs dropped to 3.8% from 4.1%, communication to 7.74% from 7.87%, and recreation and culture saw a fall to 8.47% from 8.9%. The costs associated with restaurants and hotels decreased to 9.65% from 10.54%, and miscellaneous goods and services fell slightly to 15.03% from 15.19%. In contrast, there was a slight acceleration in the costs for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which increased marginally to 7.6% from 7.56%, as well as in education, which rose to 8.97% from 8.57%. On a monthly scale, consumer prices climbed to a one-year peak, rising by 2.36% in August, up from the previous month's 2.23%.
