Retail sales in the Eurozone experienced a decline of 0.5% in July 2025 compared to the previous month, overturning the 15-month high increase of 0.6% recorded in the earlier period. This decline exceeded expectations, which had predicted a more modest 0.2% decrease. Representing the most significant drop in retail volume in nearly two years, the decrease was driven by a 1.1% fall in food, drinks, and tobacco sales (compared to a 0.7% decline in June) and a 1.7% reduction in automotive fuel sales in specialized stores (against 0.8% previously). Despite these downturns, sales of non-food products rose by 0.2%, continuing the positive trend from the 0.6% increase observed the previous month. Among the Eurozone's major economies, Germany saw a 1.5% dip in retail trade, while Spain recorded a 0.4% decline. Meanwhile, retail sales in France remained stable for the third consecutive month.
