In August 2025, the US Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index held steady compared to July, following a 0.5% decrease in the prior month. Jeremy Robb, the deputy chief economist at Cox Automotive, noted that fluctuations in wholesale values have somewhat defied expectations this year, primarily due to the industry's struggles with reduced used-vehicle inventory and heightened consumer demand for cost-effective vehicles. Price hikes were observed in specific categories: compact cars saw a 1.2% increase, mid-size sedans a 0.7% rise, and SUVs a modest 0.1% uptick. In contrast, the pickup and luxury segments experienced declines of 0.4% and 0.8%, respectively. Additionally, electric vehicle (EV) values experienced a growth of 0.8%, outpacing the 0.7% increase for non-EVs. On a year-over-year basis, the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index climbed 1.7%, marking its slowest growth rate since the drop in March.
