In July 2025, household consumption in the Netherlands increased by 1.3% compared to the same month in the previous year. This marks a slight deceleration from the revised 1.4% growth observed in June. The primary factor contributing to this slowdown was a drop in spending on food, beverages, and tobacco, which decreased by 0.1% following a 2.8% rise in June. Additionally, the growth rate of expenditure on goods softened to 1.6% from 2.4%. Conversely, there was an uptick in spending on services, with a growth of 1.1%, up from 0.6% in June. This increase was largely attributed to higher expenditures in transport and communication, recreation and culture, and hospitality sectors, which collectively constitute the majority of household spending. Furthermore, purchases of durable goods rose consistently at 3.7%, buoyed by higher sales of shoes, clothing, electrical appliances, and passenger cars. Meanwhile, spending on other commodities, including energy, fuels, and personal care products, remained stagnant, showing no change from the previous month (0% compared to a decrease of 0.5%).
